2026-06-28: Meet Galaxy: The Best Friend You've Been Looking For. Some dogs come into rescue with a story that breaks your heart. Galaxy is one of them. This handsome 4-year-old boy and 60 lb was abandoned at a boarding facility alongside an 8-year-old Labrador we believe may have been his mother. They both have the same inherited eye disease, leading us to believe they were left behind together. Despite everything he's been through, Galaxy hasn't given up on people. He's the kind of dog who simply wants to be where you are. He'll happily relax at your feet while you work, and if you'll make room, he'd be even happier curled up beside you on the couch. He's fully house-trained, crate-trained, and absolutely loves his crate - it's his own little 'man cave' where he goes to relax and recharge. He walks beautifully on a leash, rides like a gentleman in the car, and is always ready for his next adventure. He's also wonderfully respectful in the home and has never chewed or gotten into things that don't belong to him. And if you have a ball? You've just become his favorite person. Galaxy has Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), an inherited eye disease that slowly causes blindness by affecting the light-sensing cells in the back of the eye. Right now, Galaxy can still see quite well in bright light and outdoors. Like many dogs with PRA, his biggest challenge is in dim lighting and at night, where his vision is much more limited. As the disease progresses, he will likely lose his vision completely over the next few years. But don't let his diagnosis fool you. Galaxy doesn't let his vision define him. He still loves walks, car rides, playing fetch, exploring new places, and spending time with his people. Because his vision has faded gradually, he's already learned to rely on his incredible nose, sharp hearing, and trust in the people he loves. Dogs live in the moment, and Galaxy greets each day with excitement, confidence, and joy. Galaxy has done well with other dogs, but he can become a little protective of his favorite person, so we think he'd thrive as the only dog in the home, where he can soak up all the love and attention he deserves. Because Galaxy is a fun-loving, enthusiastic boy who can get excited during playtime, we think he'd do best with older children who can enjoy his playful spirit and keep up with his zest for life. Galaxy doesn't know he's 'special.' He just knows he wants someone to throw his ball, scratch his ears, let him nap at their feet (or beside them on the couch if there's room), and love him for the rest of his life. If you're looking for a loyal, gentle companion with a heart as big as his smile, Galaxy is waiting to meet you. Could that someone be you? Apply today and give this incredible boy the forever home he's been waiting for. Galaxy has already lost the home he thought would be his forever. Let's make sure he never has to lose one again.
