More detail:
2021-01-25: Adam K is a 13 year old neutered male purebred yellow Labrador. He just celebrated his 13th birthday on January 17th. He was surrendered by his owners to SCLRR for moving.

He is very affectionate and loving and enjoys the rare times when family stops by the house (due to Covid) so he can soak up more attention. He does have some physical limitations due to his aging joints. He still enjoys going for walks, but is limited to @10-15 mins before his foster mom notices his right rear leg slowing down. He walks with his younger foster sister who is a 23 lb. mutt and also lives with another even smaller blind dog. Adam K is able to go up and down a few stairs, but occasionally he's careful about going up them. His foster mom has many runner carpets throughout her one story home so that if he plops down just about anywhere he can get up without slipping.

When SCLRR took in Adam K he had several medical issues that needed to be addressed so he has been with his foster mom now for 4 months. He had a growth removed, a dental, eyelid surgery (so the eyelashes would stop rubbing on his cornea) and finally his ear infection is under control. Adam K was also severely overweight, the first week weighing in at 110 lbs. Now, after diet and mild exercise, he's down to 95 lbs., maybe even a little less. We have left a few fatty growths alone as they are not causing him any problems and he already had a couple of surgeries. He lets his foster mom trim and smooth his nails.

He is very quiet unless the door is open and he sees a stranger through the screen, then he may bark. He also starts to bark when his foster sister barks for more than 15 seconds. Adam likes to be with his human, quietly getting up and following wherever you land. If by chance you land in the shower or tub for too long, he will also go check on you in there!

Adam is not destructive and does not jump on anyone. He may steal food off of a low coffee table if left unattended, but has now been taught not to do such a thing. Adam may be hard of hearing, but we think he can hear a little bit better now that his ear infection is gone. His foster uses simple sign language to make sure he understands. He travels well in the car, but will need a ramp or the car parked along a curb to get up and inside. He gets out of the car with just his foster mom supporting his back end as he jumps out. Adam is currently on anti-inflammatory meds - Galliprant and green lipped mussel powder for his arthritis. We give him probiotics and he is finishing up on his ear medication.

Adam K is a super sweet, lovable, huggable boy. He is very much loved and we want the same for him in his new home. Do you have room in your heart and home for this old timer? If you do, please contact your Family Rep. to let them know you are interested.

If you are interested in making this Lab part of your family, please contact your SCLRR family representative. If you have not yet applied with us, please submit an online application to adopt; an SCLRR volunteer will then contact you. Please note that your homecheck must be approved in order for you to be put in touch with the dog's foster home.
