Hello there! My name is Sweet Shadow, and I am all that and MORE!

Here's the SWEET part - I am the most adorable 11 year-old young-at-heart neutered male yellow lab, friendly with all people and dogs that I meet. I am OK with kitties that I meet at the vet (I ignore them), but I do sometimes want to give chase to the kitties on my street if they run (because they taunt me through the front window ALL DAY!) It's all fun and games in my book, and my foster mom thinks I would be OK with canine-savvy felines who will lay down the rules. I am great in the house (I am house-trained, do not counter-surf, can be left in the house all day without issue, do not get on furniture and sleep quietly through the night next to my foster mom's bed), in the car, and on walks (I walk on a loose leash) and wait until you say 'ok' before I go through doors or in and out of the car. I have no bad habits because I have learned how to be a great all-round guy at my age. I know 'come' and 'sit' and am okay at 'stay'.

And here's the SHADOW part - I am definitely a Velcro guy who loves to be near his people as much as possible. I will lie quietly at your feet as you read the newspaper or work on your computer if you need to do so instead of patting me, though I will sometimes put my head on your foot just to remind you that I am here

I currently live with a senior sister and brother lab in my foster home. I like them as my pack, and we are down with each other - we eat, drink, exercise and chew bones together without issue, so I have no resource-guarding problems, but what I really want is a furever home with my people around as much as possible. I could absolutely live with another dog, as long as I get a lot of people love too. On my walks, I am drawn to the smaller ones - puggles, chiweenies and little terriers etc., so maybe I had a little fur partner in my old home? I am still playful, but would not be a good companion for an exuberant young dog who would want to play too much for me. Likewise, a home with young kids is probably too much energy for me. I am not interested in toys - so while my foster mom is playing fetch with my younger pack mates, I stand at her knee and wait for pats. I am such a good boy!

I am an older guy, with a bit of arthritis in my front left leg, so am on a very inexpensive anti-inflammatory prescription that my furever family will need to keep me on. I will do best in a one-story home so that I don't have to climb too many stairs in order to be with my family.

I have a bit of a sad past that I am working through forgetting. Every bit of love and attention you can give me will help me forget that I was abandoned in my back yard by my previous owners, fed by a good Samaritan for a while, but eventually turned into a scary shelter. I got kennel cough and was sooooo unhappy there. Thankfully the kind people at the shelter contacted SCLRR and my angel person got me out of dog jail and I have spent the last few months in my foster home where I have been taken care of and loved by my foster mom and her two fur kids. SCLRR got my teeth deep-cleaned and had two bad ones extracted, had my blood work done (all good!) and some fatty lumps removed. I am so happy to be in a loving foster home, but I really want to find my furever home, where I can show you what an awesome guy I am and love you to bits.

I have lost ten pounds on a great diet and exercise regime with my foster mom and fur-friends. I tend to be a typical 'eat anything' lab so my furever home will need to be committed to a regime that keeps me slim and trim through diet and exercise so that my joints are not stressed. I am currently looking really good at 68 lbs, if I may say so myself.

Speaking of exercise, I am a really flexible guy - I have the stamina to go on 45 minute beach walks (though am not a running or hiking partner due to my age) or I can go on a couple of 15 minute neighborhood walks with you and be happy. I will walk in the surf but don't think that I am a swimmer.

What do I love the most - you! My furever person! Walks, running errands with you in the car and just being by your side whether indoors or out.

If you are interested in me, a very Sweet Shadow, as your furever companion, please contact your SCLRR family rep.
