More detail:
2022-12-21: Hi, my name is Smokey Jo, but I've got a few nicknames my foster parents gave me. I'm about 10 years old and a black trim 69 lb friendly boy. My prior owner ended up in the hospital after being evicted and I was found abandoned in a garage with an African Parrot, then ending up at a shelter for a few days until a nice woman met me and took me to my foster family.

I've had a small mass on my eyelid and hernia that was surgically removed and a little arthritis, but am otherwise very healthy for my age. I absolutely adore being with my people, which means sometimes I can get in the way. My foster dad says I'm like his 'shadow' (one of my nicknames). I love leaning against my people, especially when I can score a big hug. I am extremely quiet and have only barked once while with my foster parents. Occasionally I will let my people know I want to eat or be let out in the morning with a bit of whining. When I want attention I nudge people with my nose, though I can be persistent and am a strong 'nudger'(another one of my nicknames). Car rides are very fun and I ride quietly in the car. When I go to new places I tend to get a little anxious, but can adapt with some love from my people.

Although they say I'm 10 years old, I'm quite active and healthy. I enjoy walks and am good on the leash. While I get along with other dogs I have little interest in other animals. I'm a good fetcher, but sometimes I don't like releasing my toy unless another toy is thrown. Playing in the water from the hose is super fun, but sometimes I want to take the hose and chew on it. From what I hear, I would probably really enjoy the beach, and am excited to visit a pool this week.

I'm comfortable sleeping in both a crate or a dog bed. My foster parent is usually around and I hang out with him, but sometimes he will be in the house and I'll be on the back deck and I sit or lay quietly. I'm tall and I can see food on the counter and I like food, so my foster parents keep me out of the kitchen. When I get playful and excited I love to pick up different things to put in my mouth and find it to be a fun little game carrying things around, but sometimes chew a bit too much. My foster parents tell people I'm affectionate, active, quiet, enjoy being around people and love attention. If you think Smokey Jo is the dog for you please contact your family rep and we can arrange a meeting with Smokey Jo.
