Mario, a four or five year old chocolate mix, has been adopted by his foster family! We're sorry to lose a home for this purpose, but delighted that Mario is gaining a wonderful home.
Bosco, a two year old chocolate male, has found himself a new home! Found as a stray, he turned out to be a sweet boy who had had some training and who fit in very well where ever he went.
Barkley, a two year old black male, journeyed from Santa Barbara to San Diego, where he was fostered for a week, proving himself a friendly and well behaved boy despite his formidable size. He was just adopted out to a family who fell in love with his personality.

Dilly, a four year old yellow female, was part of her breeder's breeding program until she was found to have a mild case of hip dysplasia. The breeder placed her in a home but it did not work out and the new owners and breeders asked us to find a home for her. It took a while, as we decided to spay her before placing her, and she turned out to need some care. She also gave her foster home gray hairs by managing to escape (and generating a call to our telephone line from someone who found her and read her tags while we were searching for her).
Dilly's hip dysplasia is mild and is not expected to be a severe problem in later life. Keeping her thin and well exercised will go a long way to preventing later problems. Hip dysplasia is not a death sentence for a dog because it comes in many different degrees of severity. Dilly is very fortunate to find a home that was willing to learn about the hip dysplasia and how to manage it. This article gives more detailed information about what hip dysplasia is and what it means for the dog.

Referral adoptions 7/17-19/98
For some reason, we pulled off a number of adoptions directly from local shelters these three days. A black female "Cutie from Covina"; yellow male "Buster" from Long Beach, and a chocolate female "Molly" from OCAS were all adopted by folks we alerted when we saw the dogs we thought they might be interested in. At last report, everyone is happy with their dogs...
Claire came to us from the shelter, obviously exhausted from whatever she went through before we got her. She turned out to be a very gentle dog and in short order went to a wonderful new home up in Huntington Beach.
Some of you may remember Earlene, who posted on Lab-L about a dog in Southern California last week. Well, SCLRR, placed this dog, Liza, a four year old yellow female, in her new home yesterday!
Liza's owner died, and she and two other dogs were left with no food or water for three weeks before they were found. The two other dogs died. Liza was nursed back to health, and is now a beautiful BIG healthy girl.
She went to a home with a seven year old boy and a stay-at-home dad (he's a professional musician, works nights). She'll sleep on the bed-something she certainly tried to do at my house!
Yes, there are happy endings in rescue--

We rescued Danny two months ago from the OCAS shelter. No one wanted this boy, as he was almost bald from flea allergies. We got the fleas under control and found the dermatitis easily controlled. He also turned out to be a very playful and happy dog. Danny went to his new home, where there is Danny Sr., Danny Jr., and now Danny the dog!

Happy go Lucky was pulled from the shelter last week and due to his winning ways speedily found himself a home down in San Diego.
We pulled Cookie out of the shelter a month ago. She's a sweet young thing, still in her puppyhood. Very friendly with people and other dogs. She just went to her new home with a retired woman and we're sure Cookie will be happy with the all-day company she'll get!
Emily took one of those whirlwind SCLRR tours where she
was adopted out a few days after we took her out of the shelter. She is a very sweet young black female and her new family is delighted with her.
Rodan, now Chase, is a gorgeous 5 year old black male with impeccable manners and a sense of fun. He went to a new
home with an older black male and everyone has been enjoying his company.
Cider was at SEAACA and we were able to refer one of our applicants directly to the shelter to adopt him. While it was touch and go for a while with some emergency vet care he needed, he pulled through and his relieved family renamed him CHANCE.

We picked this lovely young chocolate up at the shelter,
but suspected her owners were looking for her. So we hung
onto her for a week while we double checked. Sure enough, her owners came out to reclaim DELILAH, very thankful we'd saved her.
SAMANTHA, another in a series of young black females we picked up at this time was "shipped" down to San Diego from Los Angeles and speedily found a home...up in Los Angeles. Well, we try. Her new owners are thrilled with her and report her to be very sweet and good with their kids. |

The Labrador
Retriever Club of Southern California held a Fun Day especially intended for novice or puppy owners as a way of introducing people to the wonderful world of Labradors. We held a microchip clinic this day as a fundraiser and invited all our adoptive families to attend. While not all could make it, we were delighted to see those that did, including Char (now Coco), and Emily (now Nikki).

We don't get many puppies, but we wound up with a cute 8 week old chocolate male puppy we immediately dubbed Woody. He goes home today with a family that has another puppy to keep him company.

We're pleased to report that Belle has gone to a very nice home today. We look forward to hearing how she settles in with her new family.
Our first pair-of-dogs adoption (the other two pairs we've adopted out went out to separate homes). We're looking forward to hearing how this pair will do in their new home.
We're delighted to report that Buster has at long last found himself a new home! Many people were put off by his age and his preference for being outside. However, his new owner had a "trial run" on him for a week or so and found him to be a friendly dog who got on very well with her other dog and so a match was made! We're very pleased to see that Buster is doing well in his new home. He was our longest-listed dog, and we would also like to thank his former owners for keeping him for us while we kept looking for a new home.
Blazer, now Boo, is another one of our dogs who wound up being adopted by his foster home. His family is as happy with him as can be.
Bazza was adopted today and has a new companion. His new owners write that Bazza is doing very well and enjoys his new bud. Bowie her owners decided to keep, being temporarily back from Australia.
Jenny went to her new home today. She was such a sweet dog to foster it was hard to see her go. But her new family adores her and says she's exactly what they wanted.
Louie came to us from a family that found him as a stray and had decided they could not keep. So we started to make arrangements to foster him and look for a home for him. A cute 4 month old puppy, we did not think it would be hard to find him a home. And it wasn't! The family that originally found him decided they just couldn't give him up after all and last we heard he was being shamelessly spoiled.
Nikki is a very sweet young yellow male that was adopted out of a shelter on our referral. His family is thrilled with him and reports that "...Nikki is a wonderful new friend and family member. He loves to be kissed & hugged & loves playing keepaway from [my husband]. We are very happy to have him & he seems to have adjusted, he even loves going to my mother in laws (grandma) during the day."
We are relieved to report it didn't take too long for Sheena to find a new home. It turned out that she was severely allergic to cats (of all things) and was not doing well with the cat in her first home. She now has a loving (and cat free) home in San Diego.

After a few prospective homes that fell through before ever being finalized, Rosie now has a home of her very own. We're delighted that this special girl is in a good home.

GET A PET ADOPTION DAY 9/19/98
Get A Pet organized another very successful adoption fair in Del Mar this weekend. We adopted out ten dogs from this event, listed below. Get A Pet puts together a very nice affair, with many local vendors, and tons of stuff donated by various companies and participants to help promote the idea of adopting a rescue dog. While the pace can be a little frantic in handing out information to interested people and interviewing others as prospective homes, it's a day of work that's well worth it. After four such fairs, we've had only one adoption that didn't work out and that was for medical reasons. So we're quite pleased.
Because of several problems arising in his first home, Ike was returned to us. However, he's managed to find himself another good home with another bud to romp around with. At last report, his new family was very happy with him.
We're especially pleased to report that Breeze has a new home. This older dog was put up for adoption when his original family moved cross country. He is a bit shy and did not always "show" well to prospective families. However, he is now being pampered in his new home, which is exactly what he deserves.
Our second Willy, after some training and rehabilitation, has found himself a super new home, that we're sure is committed to continuing his training and that will give him the love and attention he needs.
Our second Samantha reminded us a lot of Cookie; perhaps not as outgoing, but otherwise with an inquisitive personality and an ability to get along well with other dogs. She was also quickly adopted out at the Del Mar Adoption fair and we look forward to reports from her new family.
Buck's new family came around and looked at him long and hard yesterday. Today they came by and said that they would take him. We like families that think about what they're getting into! We're confident that Buck has gone to a good home and will be hearing from them soon.
Some very kind folks spotted Blackie in the shelter and sprung him with theintention of placing him and so enlisted our help. The adoptive family, in San Diego County, is very happy with their new pet.
Trigger was another young labrador puppy that a family without the time or resources to care for wound up with. He had his papers, but he seemed like a mix to us. In any case, Trigger turned out to be a pretty lucky boy, as he wound up in a family with three children to play with.
When Cody's foster mom looked at him in order to "load him up" and take him to the Del Mar fair to look for a new home, she found she just couldn't do it. So Cody has found his final home to live out the rest of his years in peace and quiet.
