Check it out! Vanilla Chip is now Available and looking for his forever home! You may have seen Chip in our Labs In Need Section. He had a bit of a rough start, but after a couple months with SCLRR getting some TLC, he is now ready to start the next part of his life.

Chip is an AKC papered 3 year old boy. He is an English 'type' Lab with a shorter build and beautiful head. He weighs in at a nice 70lbs and has a great level of energy. Chip currently lives with 4 other Labs. It is quite entertaining to watch Chip run and play chase with the big boys. Chip is a very confident dog who enjoys wrestling with his buddies!Chip loves his people, especially the children in his Foster home. He is very good with everyone and would love to have human kids of his own to grow up with.

Chip is completely house broken and crate trained. Chip does well unsupervised in the house, as long as tempting items are put away. He will sleep quietly in his crate at night, or happily sleep on a dog bed with his buddies. Chip has good manners in the house and enjoys learning new things. He would benefit from continued training with his new family~and it's a great time to bond.

Chip is all clear and ready for adoption. His new family will need to continue his follow up care with Vet visits. He has been diagnosed with low thyroid levels. This is easily managed with very inexpensive medication daily and fish oil supplement. Occasionally, Chip needs an antihsithamine and medicated baths for the itchies as his hair grows back in. Considering where this boy has come from, this is a piece of cake!

Please see Chip's Labs In Need Story below. We are sure you will understand how special this boy really is. If you would like to know more about Chip, please contact your family rep today.

*****Here is Chip's Story*****SCLRR would like to introduce our newest Lab In Need- Vanilla Chip. Chip is a 3 year old purebred boy. Chip's story is one that will really tug at your heart. We are so happy to be able to help him.

One of SCLRR's volunteer teams was making their weekend rounds visiting shelters. They saw this boys sweet face on the shelter's website and decided they needed to go out and see him. There was just something about him. It took a little time to find him, but with the help of the Officer in charge that day, they found him. He was in Isolation.

They were taken back to the area where Isolation dogs are kept and there he was. He was standing there wiggling and wagging at them. Though he was in a shelter, behind a gate, he beamed his smile and love straight out at them. It took no time for them to decide that they were going to help this lovely dog. A couple phone calls later, some discussion with the Officer and this boy was out interacting with the volunteers. Once out of the kennel, he proved to be exactly what they thought, a sweet and happy dog. When he was playing with his two new friends, the shelter staff stood and watched, hoping that their buddy would get to go home. He quickly became a staff favorite and a SCLRR favorite too!

It is clear that he has not had the best life recently. He was taken by Animal Control from a person who took him in as a stray. This person, sadly was not caring for him as he should have been cared for. He and the other animals on the property were being kept in unsanitary and flea infested conditions. Thankfully, Animal Control took necessary measures and rescued them. He has been diagnosed with a variety of skin ailments. Please don't let his appearance fool you. Though he does not look like a lot of other Labs right now, his true beauty shines through. He has a beaming smile and a hop in his step that you cannot help but fall in love with.

Now that he has been taken in by SCLRR, he will get the additional long term care he needs. We arranged for an appointment with one of our Veterinary Specialists. He was picked up from the shelter and taken directly to his new Vet for tests and a treatment plan. From there, he went to his new foster home to settle in. What an incredible fresh new start for this sweet dog. Please check back and follow his progress and journey back to good health.

***Update July 12, 2010*** Chip is doing very well in his foster home. He is currently living with 4 other Labs and 2 children. He is having a ton of fun. He is completely housebroken, crate trained and not destructive. Chip is such a pleasure to have around! He has been to the Vet and gotten on the right track to getting back to great health. It was found that he had a very low Thyroid. He is now on a very inexpensive medicine and doing so much better! He also gets medicated baths, fish oil and takes allergy medicine to help with his itchies for now. Chip is a typical Lab in all ways, loves to play, chase squeaky toys and take long naps! He has a couple more follow up visits with his Doctor before he will be ready for adoption. Check back on Chip's progress!
